Sedation Dentistry

Whether you’re faced with fear of the dentist or an extensive procedure, sedation dentistry can make an appointment more comfortable and pain-free. Several patients have either had bad dental experiences, grown up with a fear of the dentist or avoid the dentist altogether due to dental anxieties. With sedation dentistry, you can put aside your worries and make an appointment knowing you’ll be able to sit in the dental chair worry-free and completely comfortable. Sedation allows you to go through any appointment without being bothered by surrounding sounds or smells. Most of the time, you will remember little to nothing from your appointment with the use of sedation. We offer 3 different types of sedation dentistry depending on the type of treatment you will need during your visit.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is sedation in pill form. Within minutes of taking oral sedation, you will begin to feel relaxed and at ease. With oral sedation, you may doze off or remember little from your appointment. Oral sedation can take some time to wear away, so a driver may need to accompany you to bring you home following your appointment.

Nitrous Oxide

This form of sedation is inhaled through a facial mask that is worn over your nose throughout your appointment. Nitrous oxide will take effect within minutes of wearing the mask. One advantage of nitrous oxide is that the amount you are given can be turned up or down throughout your appointment. This type of sedation begins to wear off as soon as you remove the mask, allowing you to go on with your day when you leave our office without waiting for the effects to wear away.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is administered through an IV and takes effect right away. This sedation is our strongest form of sedation, typically meant for more extensive treatment. Experienced trained staff will administer the IV, as well as monitor you throughout the appointment. The level of sedation can be increased throughout your appointment if necessary. It does take time for this sedative to wear off and you won’t remember your appointment once the IV sedation is given.
